NOV 13 2026 6:30PM: French Country Cooking - Hands On
Available in stock (16)
There's a reason French country cooking has endured for centuries: it's honest, generous food built on patience, good ingredients, and technique passed down from one kitchen to the next. Rustic, comforting, and quietly elegant, it's the kind of cooking that makes a weeknight feel like a celebration. Join James Beard Award-winning author Chef Cynthia Graubart for a hands-on evening devoted to the timeless dishes of the French farmhouse table.
This class is about more than recipes. Chef Cynthia walks you through the foundational techniques that give French country cooking its depth: sweating leeks for sweetness without color, building a silky puréed soup, browning and braising for maximum flavor, reducing wine into a glossy sauce, and coaxing sugar and butter into a deep amber caramel. Whether you're new to French cooking or ready to finally master the classics, you'll leave with the skills and confidence to bring a cozy French bistro dinner to your own table this fall and through the holidays.
What's on the Menu:
- Leek and Potato Soup: The quintessential French country starter. Humble leeks and potatoes are gently cooked and puréed into a velvety, comforting soup, a lesson in how simple ingredients and careful technique can create something truly elegant.
- Coq au Vin: The crown jewel of French farmhouse cooking. Chicken is browned and slowly braised in red wine with mushrooms, pearl onions, and bacon until fork-tender and bathed in a rich, glossy sauce. Chef Cynthia shares the secrets to building layers of flavor in a dish that only gets better with time.
- Effortless Tarte Tatin: France's famous upside-down apple tart, made approachable. Apples caramelize in butter and sugar beneath a golden pastry crust, then flip out into a stunning, glistening dessert that looks like it came from a Parisian pâtisserie, with none of the stress.
The evening ends with the best part: tasting everything you've made, from the first spoonful of soup to the last bite of warm, caramel-glazed tarte Tatin. Come hungry; this is the taste of the French countryside, right here in Atlanta.
