NOV 22 2026 4:00PM: Secrets of Great Home Cooks: Herbs and Spices - Hands On
Available in stock (15)
Ask any great home cook for their secret, and the answer is rarely a fancy gadget or a complicated recipe. It's knowing how to use herbs and spices. A handful of fresh herbs or a well-chosen spice blend can turn a simple dish into something extraordinary, and the best cooks around the world have been doing it for generations. Join James Beard Award-winning author Chef Cynthia Graubart for a flavorful journey through the herbs and spices that make everyday cooking unforgettable.
This class goes beyond a single cuisine. Chef Cynthia takes you from Argentina to the Middle East to South India, showing you how cultures around the globe use fresh herbs and aromatic spices to build bold, layered flavor. You'll learn how to balance herbs in bright, punchy sauces, toast and bloom spices to unlock their full aroma, work with spice blends like za'atar, and use an herb crust to transform a classic roast chicken. Whether you're stuck in a seasoning rut or ready to cook with more confidence and creativity, you'll leave with versatile techniques and recipes you'll reach for again and again.
What's on the Menu:
- Chimichurri Sauce: Argentina's famous herb sauce, bursting with fresh parsley, garlic, and a bright hit of vinegar. Endlessly versatile and ready in minutes, it's the kind of recipe that instantly upgrades grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and just about everything else.
- Mint & Cilantro Yogurt Sauce: Cool, creamy, and vibrant, this fresh herb yogurt sauce brings brightness and balance to richly spiced dishes. A simple lesson in how herbs and dairy work together to tame heat and add freshness.
- Za'atar Flatbreads: Warm, golden flatbreads brushed with za'atar, the beloved Middle Eastern blend of herbs, sesame, and tangy sumac. Fragrant and irresistible, they're perfect for tearing, dipping, and sharing.
- South Indian-Spiced Potatoes: Humble potatoes take on bold, aromatic character with warm South Indian spices. Chef Cynthia demonstrates how blooming whole spices in hot oil releases their full flavor, a technique that will change the way you season everything.
- Herb-Crusted Roast Chicken: A timeless classic made unforgettable. A fragrant herb crust gives this roast chicken a golden, flavorful exterior and juicy, tender meat, the perfect canvas for the vibrant sauces you'll make in class.
The evening ends with the best part: tasting everything you've made and discovering how the sauces, spices, and breads come together on one beautifully seasoned plate. Come hungry and curious; this is the class that will change the way Atlanta cooks at home.
